We had submitted a proposal for conducting a workshop for the women participants, as the theme for 2014 was Cybercrimes against women. Our proposal was accepted and we were invited to conduct a full day workshop on ‘Cyber Security and Ethical Hacking By Women For Women’. This workshop was our first event together. The workshop venue was Infopark, Kochi.

Our Agenda for the workshop included the following:

  • Basics of Internet,
  • Cybercrimes against women,
  • Career options in information security,
  • Introduction to ethical hacking,
  • Basics of network & web application security

120+ attended our workshop, which included students, teachers and working professionals. It was an instructor led demo workshop where we demonstrated the attacks using testing-purpose vulnerable applications. We had a feedback session in the end. The response we got from the attendees was overwhelming. We were approached to conduct similar events at colleges’ technical fests. They also came asking for more information about career options and how to get started in this field. Post the workshop, the slides and other study resources were shared with the participants.
